 All About Grenoble

Grenoble is located in the Rhône-Alpes region (southeast France), second economic region in France after Paris, and is very attractive for international companies looking for the right place to set up.

Grenoble and the Isère county have a
strategic location within the European market. It is at the center of communication networks:
three international airports (Lyon St Exupéry -45 mns drive- and Geneva Cointrin -75 mns drive- and Grenoble-St Geoirs -30 mns drive-) can be reached easily thanks to highways,
high speed train (TGV) also connects Grenoble to Paris in 3 hours,
highway connections to Lyon, Geneva, Turin, Paris are available.

Supported by a population with a high level of education,
the Grenoble area offers a wide range of economic activities based on a close collaboration between innovating companies (particularly in the IT sector) and research centers :
world leaders present in the IT sector : Hewlett Packard, Bull, St Microelectronics, Rank Xerox Research Center, Cap Gemini...
4 international research centers : European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, Laue Langevin Institute, Millimetric Radio Astronomy Institute, National Service for Intense Magnetic Field, European Molecular Biology Laboratory.

More recently, a new innovation centre called Minatec came into existence, which main objective is to become Europe's top centre for innovation and expertise in micro and nanotechnology.

The Grenoble area is also internationally-oriented :
around
1,000 companies are involved in international trade,
120 international companies have chosen Grenoble as the base of their business activities in France or Europe: BD (medical equipment), Honeywell (data processing), Hewlett-Packard (data processing), ST Microelectronics/Philips/Motorola (semi-conductors), Caterpillar (earth-moving equipment)...,
famous Grenoble-born companies are among world leaders in their sector of activity : Cap Gemini (data processing), Schneider Electric (electrical engineering), Pomagalski (cableways), Photo-Me (express service : keys, minilab photo, photocopies...), Radiall (coaxial connectors), Rossignol (winter sports equipments).
For several years now, the Isère county is ranked in the top ten of French exporting counties counting for about one quarter of the Rhône-Alpes region exports and imports.

At last, Grenoble offers a life style of rare quality. The surrounding mountains do not only provide beautiful scenery but also exciting sport activities including skiing (Rhône-Alpes has the most extensive ski-slopes in the world and is the only region in the world which has hosted 3 Winter Olympics !), hiking, moutaineering, gliding, flying, etc. Water sports are also available thanks to 7 nearby lakes and many rivers...

The WTC Grenoble offers an ideal location to consider a light setting-up in the area. Should you wish further details concerning the reasons to invest in the Grenoble region, please visit the website of the A.E.P.I. -Agence d'Etude et de Promotion de l'Isère- (Isère county's economic development agency).
